Welcome, everyone!

Jacqueline Beaulieu

One of my goals this year (as recorded in my planner) was to launch my own website... and here I am! I hope you won't mind the "construction dust" as everything gets up and running.

If we haven't met before:

My name is Jacqueline Beaulieu. At the moment, I am a PhD Candidate studying Higher Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto.

What drives my scholarship and practice?

Mainly, my desire to support postsecondary students in:

  • Developing and pursuing personal definitions of "student success",
  • Cultivating scholarly areas of interest,
  • Exploring (potential) roles and contributions to society,
  • Shaping their respective colleges and universities.

Current Research

In my dissertation research (data collection in progress), I examine outcomes and implications of an Ontario Provincial Government policy that requires publicly assisted colleges and universities to co-determine "compulsory non-tuition-related ancillary fees" with their respective student populations.

What are "compulsory non-tuition-related ancillary fees?" These are levied above and in addition to tuition to recoup costs associated with (but not limited to) student services.

This policy essentially gives students a veto: new compulsory non-tuition-related ancillary fees and increases to existing compulsory non-tuition-related ancillary fees cannot be implemented unless approved by an institution's student population (or their representatives) according to procedures outlined in an agreed-upon protocol.

Pretty interesting, eh! I have a lot more to share about the policy- its history, outcomes, and implications. Stay tuned for future related posts and publications.

For more information about my scholarly work and professional background in student services, please visit the CV Highlights section of my website (under construction at time of publication).

Content Creation

When taking a break from my studies, I enjoy providing tips and inspiration for graduate students and academics via my YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter online presence.

Many of the topics covered are equally of interest to more broadly defined thinkers, writers, and creatives! (e.g., productivity, planning, motivation, purpose)

I would love for you to join these communities! You can access and subscribe to them at the links below.

Fun facts:

  • I am an avid figure skating fan and adult recreational figure skater; I began the sport at the age of 14 and have continued to skate since then.
  • I love collecting stationery, especially pens! Fountain pens, felt-tipped pens, highlighters, notebooks, washi tape, and stickers. My favourite stationery items tend to be from Japan and Germany.
  • Favourite coffee order: iced mocha latte.
  • I have a daily language learning practice: I am currently learning Russian (beginner level) and improving my French language abilities.

Thanks for visiting! I look forward to also getting to know you!
